Privilege

Written for Michelle Sims, CEO, YUPRO Placement

It's undeniable: as a white, straight, cisgender woman, I've had privileges in my life that many others do not enjoy.

That doesn't mean I haven't had struggles.

But with the privilege I was born into comes a responsibility to recognize that in some or all situations I am advantaged by virtue of who I am.

Years ago, I made the choice to put my privilege to work in service of others.

It is my firm belief that there is dignity in all work and that everyone deserves a role with fair market wages, upskilling pathways, and upward career mobility.

I use my influence and position to help others understand the value of this cause.

I am not perfect; I am still learning every day through feedback, podcasts, books, and an ever-expanding network. But every day I strive to use my privilege for the good of others.

How do you put your privilege to work?
